NELLE

piano coach
Soprano, composer, and interdisciplinary improviser Nelle J. Anderson seeks the nexus of opera, experimental music, and pop. Since her professional debut with the American Symphony Orchestra, she has performed as an operatic soloist with Bach Society of Minnesota, Early Music Seattle, the Juno Award-winning baroque ensemble Ensemble Caprice, and the Grammy Award-winning PARTCH Ensemble. She composes performance-art pieces as Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), externalizing the singer’s inner monologue, practice-room processes, and spiritual motivations. Praised for its “production trickery” and “graceful experimentation,” her debut art-pop album as Soubrette, ANY DEAD COQUETTE (2021), was called “an outstanding experience” by the Recording Artists Guild. She was a 2024-2025 Fulbright Fellowship Semi-Finalist to develop her INVERSE VOICE EVENTS performance-art opera pedagogy in Berlin.
Bitten by the music bug in childhood as a classical piano student—the power of a fabulous teacher—and having since trained in and taught classical singing, musical theater, pop, songwriting, and acting to a wide-range of ages and skill levels, Nelle brings a treasure-trove of artistic and technical techniques to her students, combining empowering lesson experiences and scientifically-backed learning approaches. A former Montessori student and teaching assistant, she’s dedicated to inspiring authentic musicality, confidence, and strong technique for any singing genre.
She is an alumna of the OperaWorks and Oberlin in Italy programs and a certified Reiki Master, a practice which compels her artmaking and voice teaching. She holds a BA in Classical Voice Performance from Bard College and a Performer-Composer MFA from California Institute of the Arts.
