How to deliver an unforgettable Performance

Whether you're preparing for an audition, gig, tour or just a small gathering with friends, performing in front of other can be super fun but nerve-wracking. In this blog we will explore our 7 tips to create an unforgettable performance and most importantly, keep growing and developing your performance skills.

  1. Preparation: One of the most important things in delivering an amazing performance is preparation. Know your song in and out. Practice it not only until you get it right but also until you don't get it wrong. Know your lyrics, your melody lines, your chord progressions, phrasing, and story. Practice consistently to build the muscle memory so that you can focus on the emotional and storytelling aspects of your performance when you are on stage.

  2. Smart Practice: You can save yourself a lot of time by being focused and mindful during your practice. Rehearsals should go beyond just running through your song. Pick out challenging parts of the song and work on them individually.

  3. Embrace Stage Presence: Recently we wrote a blog about stage presence but we want to stress again how important body language, facial expressions and being tuned into the song are. Practice your performance not only vocally or instrumentally but also physically. Stand tall and grounded, let your eyes be the window to your soul and engage your audience as if it's your best friend.

  4. Visualize Success: Don't skip this! Visualizing the performance the way you want it will make it 50% more likely that you perform the way you envisioned. It will also help calm your nerves before the performance as this mental rehearsal will boost your confidence and focus.

  5. Simulate Performance Conditions: Recreate the performance environment during rehearsals. Practice in front of a mirror, record yourself or perform for friends and family. Simulating the pressure of a live audience can help you become more comfortable with the performance setting.

  6. Manage your nerves: It is completely normal to feel nervous before a performance it is beneficial as long as it's not stopping you from showing your full potential. If you feel extremely nervous before your performance, close your eyes and take a couple of calming breaths. Exhale and picture the air going down and grounding you like the roots of a tree. Then take the Superman pose by standing tall and raining one arm up in the air with confidence. Focus on the excitement of sharing your talent rather than the anxiety of being on stage.

  7. Be Flexible: Live performances are unpredictable, and being adaptable is key. Prepare for potential hiccups like technical issues or unexpected distractions. Rehearse different scenarios to ensure you can handle unforeseen challenges with grace.
